Schemes to control the usage of the drug
The number of states legalizing recreational cannabis has grown significantly within the past decade, and more than half of them have downgraded it to some degree of decriminalization. However, it remains on the federally controlled substance list, categorizing drugs into five "schemes."Eighteen states and two territories, and Washington DC have passed legislation supporting the use of recreational cannabis. A law to that effect was passed in five states - Connecticut, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, and Virginia - in 2021.
Drugs with more abusiveness
The federal government states that schedule one drugs have no accepted medical applications and have a high potential for abuse. Among these: are heroin, LSD, ecstasy, peyote - and cannabis.13 out of 15 states that have placed the issue on the ballot since 2012 have passed it, continuing a trend after lawmakers have refused to wait for elections to bring weed reform to the people.
People selection can't be changed
Having reached a tipping point in political support, we are finally seeing this issue being taken seriously and addressed by legislators in states that aren't even waiting for an election cycle to decide," Mr. Altieri says.During the past decade, public opinion has changed dramatically towards legalization, and now most states in the US have legalized it for medicinal purposes.
Usage of cannabis for medicinal purposes
According to the Pew Research Center, as many as 91 percent of Americans favor the legalization of cannabis in some form, with 60 percent of those citing its legalization for recreational use and 31 percent calling it legal for medicinal use.In a 2020 Gallup poll, the first to assess the public's views about cannabis legalization since 1969, when just 12 percent of the country supported it, it was found that Americans are more likely now than ever to keep lifting the prohibition than at any time in the past half-century.
