The youngest of her parents' four daughters, Amy Lee Grant was born in Augusta, Georgia. Amy Grant was raised in a close-knit family in Nashville, Tennessee, and her early church attendance was the catalyst for her love of Christian tales, hymns, and music, which would later influence her writing.

She would frequently appear on stage while she was a student at Harpeth Hall School. She self-taught herself how to play the guitar when she was a teenager, and she also had a part-time job at a recording studio. In order to record her self-titled debut album, which was released in 1978, she initially obtained a recording contract with a Christian music label. She began her freshman year at Furman University in the same year, and at a sold-out concert, she delivered her maiden performance.

She first met Gary Chapman in 1979 at the celebration of the release of her second album, "My Father's Eyes." She transferred to Vanderbilt University the next year and joined the Kappa Alpha Theta fraternity there.

Career & Rise to Stardom

Amy Grant left college early to concentrate on pursuing a career in music. She became quickly famous in 1982 when she released her coming-of-age, breakthrough album, "Age to Age."

Amy Grant started releasing a number of Christmas records after riding the success of her album "Age to Age," which she would later use for her holiday concerts. She released the pop-tinged Christian album "Straight Ahead" in 1984.

The year 1985 required tenacity and unwavering resolve. She published her album, "Unguarded," which came as a surprise (both nice and rude) to a number of her Christian admirers in an effort to increase her fan base and achieve her goal of becoming the first Christian Pop singer-songwriter.

Another CD she published in 1988, titled "Lead Me On," features a vast array of songs on love and Christianity. One of the finest Contemporary-Christian albums of all time, this record went on to become.

She started to branch out into pop music in 1991 when she released the album "Heart in Motion." Her abrupt desire to change genres surprised many of her followers, and some even objected to her musical taste. Grant clarified that she intended to stray from the path because she wanted to grow her fan base. She established herself as a well-known figure even in the mainstream after the record became a success.

She recorded two pop-tinged Christian albums, including "Home for Christmas" and "House of Love," between 1992 and 1994. In 1997, she published her 15th album, "Behind the Eyes," which explored more somber topics like heartbreak, marriage, divorce, and themes of hope. She had high hopes for the album, but it didn't do well with the public, who had already started to lose interest in her newly discovered love of mainstream music.

She still made a strong comeback in 1999 with the release of the album "A Christmas to Remember." Her popularity gradually grew again once the album was a tremendous success.

With the publication of "Legacy...Hymns and Faith" in 2002, she returned to her gospel music roots in the new millennium. She released the pop album "Simple Things" the next year, although it wasn't as successful.

She published a follow-up to her hymn collection in 2005 under the title "Rock of Ages... Hymns and Faith."

She published her autobiography in 2007 under the title "Mosaic: Pieces of My Life So Far."Her 2010 album "Somewhere along the Road," which was a Billboard Hit and featured the hit "Better than a Hallelujah," was released.

She took part in a campaign to support the media initiative "Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide" two years later. On May 14, 2013, her most recent album, "How Mercy Looks From Here," was made available.
