Jace's story doesn't end here. Swagger, the original drama series from Apple TV+, has been renewed for a second season. Its first season of 10 episodes was published across the streaming service in mid-December 2021, with three episodes released on Oct. 29, 2021.
Reggie Rock Bythewood, the creator, director, executive producer, and showrunner of Swagger, said, 'I can't wait to share more of the fascinating lives of these incredible characters.' They will find out what being a champion means on and off the court in Season 2, and I am grateful to Apple TV+ for offering that platform.
'Swagger' was inspired by Kevin Durant's experience growing up on the Washington, DC youth basketball circuit. Brian Grazer, Oscar, and Emmy winner Rich Kleiman also collaborate on the film as executive producers.
Jace Carson (Isaiah Hill), a young basketball prodigy who was expected to play in the NBA, played in the first season. Getting Jace Edwards to become the superstar player he had once envisioned is Ike 'Icon' Edwards' goal (O'Shea Jackson Jr.)
Jenna Carson, Jace's mom, is played by Shinelle Azoroh, while Jace's best friend, Quvenzhané Wallis Crystal, is portrayed by Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis Crystal. Caleel Harris, James Bingham, Solomon Irama, Ozie Nzeribe, Tessa Ferrer, Tristan Mack Wilds, and Jason Rivera are also part of the ensemble cast.
According to the Hollywood Reporter's review of the show's premiere last fall, they brought to life a world that burst from the screen: It may be set in a niche unfamiliar to most viewers. But Reggie Rock Bythewood manages to construct a world so richly imagined we do not doubt our minds that it existed long before we were invited and will persist long after we are gone.
Swagger establishes itself as one of the best new series after just a few episodes with vivid characters and an intelligent storytelling approach. Throughout the first season, the world of Swagger captured the current social and political climate in 2020, reflecting racial injustice, police brutality, and Black Lives Matter protests.
According to Bythewood in the December 'Beyond the Court' video for Apple TV+, this was another opportunity to hold the mirror up to society. Even though it's hard to have a conversation about the daily stuff that goes on in our lives, Durant continued.
As a disrupting sports drama with deep roots in more than just basketball, Swagger will drive meaningful discussion for at least one more season. Durant and Kleiman's Boardroom produces the Apple Original with Imagine Television Studios, CBS Studios, and Undisputed Cinema.
