The future of the DCU is less clear than ever, but amidst the turmoil, a new report suggests James Gunn and Peter Safran weren't the first to be considered for the CEO position at DC Studios.
According to The New York Post, only James Gunn and Peter Safran were willing to take the high-pressure role, while many, including Joker director Todd Phillips, turned down the chance to bring back the DCU.

In fact, from when Zack Snyder needed to step away from Justice League in 2016, the ground has eroded under the feet of anyone who steps up to take the helm of a DCU project.

But this team could have been very different, as many people were approached to pilot the DC ship in front of James Gunn and Peter Safran, but no one wanted the job.
Todd Phillips would have added another twist to the game that could have made the entire franchise more grounded, like the Joker movies and Matt Reeves' Batman.

One thing that has become clear in recent weeks is that the roles James Gunn and Peter Safran have taken on will not be easy.
James Gunn shared some tweets yesterday about the backlash from fans and how he's getting the job done the way it was planned behind the scenes without making changes based on fan feedback.

This could indicate how fan power played a huge role in the release of Zack Snyder's Justice League.

The #ReleaseTheSnyderCut campaign led many social media fans to believe that the hashtag campaign could change the studio's plans. However, this will not work under the new DC Studios regime.

There's still a long way to go before fan anxiety subsides, and it will likely begin when James Gunn reveals his new DCU plans early next year. We can only enjoy the coda and wait to see what happens next.
