There have been 17 seasons of American Idol, and 12 permanent judges have been added over the years. Since the show began 17 seasons ago, America's Got Talent has had 12 judges, each bringing something unique to the show.

It's fair to say that each has had some exciting moments, whether it's performing a dangerous act or being moved to tears by a story; however, some have been better than others. Currently, Simon Cowell, Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum, and Sofia Vergara are among the 12 judges, each considered to be one of the best.

Brandy Norwood

In her professional singing and acting career, Brandy Norwood is only ranked at the bottom because she only appeared in one season. When the show premiered in 2006, she sat alongside Piers Morgan and David Hasselhoff as one of the first judges.

Julianne Hough

Among those who didn't last a season, Julianne Hough was not well received when she joined the show for season 14. She was a professional dancer with acting, singing, and dancing experience, making her a multi-talented judge for all types of entertainment.

Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union also lasted only one season on the judging panel in season 14. As she called out the show for being a 'boy's club' among other criticisms, Gabrielle Union, known for movies like 10 Things I Hate About You, departed from the show and the situation was met with plenty of controversies.

David Hasselhoff

Hasselhoff was one of the original judges back in 2006, remaining until season 4 before being replaced by Howie Mandel. There were plenty of people auditioning who felt starstruck when he appeared on the judge's panel. The show left only Hasselhoff as the only American judge after Brandy left after the first season.

Melanie Brown

She served as one of the show's longest-running judges from seasons 8 through 13, also known as Scary Spice from The Spice Girls. She and Heidi Klum's relationship was beautiful and fun, even though some of her comments were repetitive. Along with Howie Mandel and Howard Stern, the pair was interesting.

Sharon Osbourne

As a judge on American Idol, Sharon Osbourne brought her blunt honesty and hilarious personality to the show beginning with season 2, replacing Brandy, and ending with season 7, which is ranked the show's best. Mel B took her place after that.

Heidi Klum

When an actor needs a volunteer, Heidi's overly positive attitude and willingness to participate are appreciated by fans. In addition to gushing over acts that some fans may not see as deserving of the award, she also recognizes talent, such as her Golden Buzzer for Sal Valentinetti.

Piers Morgan

From season 1 through season 6, Piers Morgan was a controversial figure in everything he did, including America's Got Talent. When he criticized acts on the show, he never shied away from sparring with the audience and their boos because he is always unapologetically himself.

Sofia Vergara

With a personality like Sofia Vergara's, it is hard not to enjoy her role in Modern Family, which translates into her comedy. Although she is always nice, she won't hesitate to tell you if she dislikes an act, despite being easily swayed by loud and convincing live audiences.

Howard Stern

When Stern replaced Piers Morgan in season 7 and remained on through season 10, fans had a completely different view of Shock Jock radio DJ Howard Stern. Fans were surprised to find he wasn't too crass like the politically incorrect persona they knew from his extensive radio career.

Howie Mandel

The longest-serving judge on the show, Howie Mandel has been there since season 5 and continues to be a fan favorite. They often joke with each other on the judging panel as a result of their friendship with Cowell.

Simon Cowell

As soon as Howard Stern left the show, it was apparent there were big shoes to fill, and only one person could do it and do it well: Simon Cowell. The show for which he serves as a creator was to be judged by him. Season 11 is his first as a judge.

Thank You!
