With Sunday's 28-19 victory over the Chicago Bears, the Green Bay Packers have become the most successful franchise in NFL history.
Aaron Rodgers and the 2022 Packers defeated the Bears for the club's 787th victory, breaking a tie with Chicago for the most in NFL history. It marks the Packers' first victory over the Bears.
According to NFL Research, the Bears/Decatur Staleys club had the most regular-season victories after each of the league's first 102 seasons. The Bears led the Packers by one victory after 2021, 783-782.
The Packers' record in their 102nd season improved with Sunday's victory to 787-589-38.
In their 103rd season, the Bears currently own a franchise record of 786-620-42.
According to an article published in USA Today, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur commented after the game: 'To be the franchise in the history of the NFL with the most victories is very remarkable.'
The Bears (3-10) might still tie or exceed the Packers (5-8) with five weeks remaining in the season, but Sunday marks the first time since 1921 that a club other than the Bears/Staleys has been in sole possession of the first place.
The Buffalo All-Americans triumphed on December 3, 1921, improving their overall record to 18-1-3 and leapfrogging the then-17-2-2 Staleys.
That's why the last time a team finished ahead of the Bears, they weren't even the Bears yet, and the NFL was still called the American Professional Football Association.
The Packers wrote their name into the annals of history on a Sunday afternoon in Chicago by defeating their most bitter foe.
