There is tremendous excitement in the soap opera community about Days of Our Lives moving from NBC to Peacock. Three soap operas remain on cable after the show bids farewell in September. There has been much speculation as to what the latest changes to daytime TV will mean for other drama series.

Daytime TV programs such as soap operas are popular. Watching their favorite characters unfold the latest dramas on weekdays has been a tradition since 1949. It was once possible to watch over ten soap operas at once.

After a few years, the shows began to dwindle due to changing TV viewing habits. A 35-year run of Another World ended in 1999 as the first major cancellation. Among the shows that have been axed since 2009 are Guiding Light, As the World Turns, All My Children, and One Life to Live.

As Days of Our Lives recently announced that it was moving from NBC to Peacock, only three soap operas remain. While General Hospital, The Bold and the Beautiful, and The Young and the Restless still exist, their future is uncertain.

Soap opera viewing habits have been impacted by technology and societal changes. There are still many long-time viewers of the shows, but they appear to be a dying breed.

The move of Days of Our Lives to Peacock seems beneficial to both sides since many people use streaming services. It is, however, not viewed this way by many people.

As Days of Our Lives ends its 57-year run on NBC, an era in soap opera history comes to an end. Soap fans wonder what the latest daytime TV shakeup means for the other shows. Fans expressed their fear of the programs being canceled in a Reddit thread.

There will come a time in the not too distant future when all soaps will be a thing of the past. As one viewer put it, I was devastated when Guiding Light ceased to exist.'.

As a result of their relatively low cost of production, soaps have maintained their popularity throughout history. Another commenter replied, 'I guess this was inevitable since these reality shows are just as cheap to produce and draw more viewers.'.

“There's no doubt CBS will move B&B and Y&R to Paramount sooner than later...the good news is that you won't have to watch commercials if you don't want to,” wrote another fan.

There has been interest in other soap operas since the news about Days of Our Lives broke. In its 59th season, General Hospital has been on television for the longest time.

According to TV Series Finale, there has been no announcement regarding a renewal of the show, but it is expected to be renewed for its 60th season shortly.

Y&R has been renewed until 2024. During the same period, its sister soap, The Bold and the Beautiful, was renewed for two more seasons in March 2022. As of now, CBS and ABC will continue to broadcast soap operas.
