NYS Fair to host 'American Idol' winner

Albany, New York (NEWS10) - The Great New York State Fair is set to feature another high-profile act, 'American Idol' winner Noah Thompson.

The iconic singing competition was won by Thompson after he was randomly selected by his friend, Arthur Noah.

Sean Hennessey, interim Fair Director, said Noah Thompson's journey is relatable to many New Yorkers.

Having him perform on our stage is exciting since he has just won one of the world's most popular singing competitions.

The audience will be able to say they saw Noah because he has a promising career ahead of him.'

A performance by the Kentucky native will take place at 2 pm on September 4 at Chevy Court. A total of 16 million votes helped him win the 20th season of 'American Idol', beating out HunterGirl in the finals.

The 20-year-old singer has a 1-year-old son named Walker. He approached Idol judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie with an acoustic guitar and a laid-back attitude.

After singing Kameron Marlowe's 'Giving You Up,' he almost wouldn't have to grind gutters again. During his stint on Idol, Thompson performed Rihanna's 'Stay,' Harry Style's 'Falling' and Fleetwood Mac's 'Landslide.'.

The singer also collaborated with Melissa Etheridge on a cover of her best-known song, 'I'm the Only One.'Just before Thompson was named the winner, viewers heard his original song, 'One Day Tonight,' which went to number one on iTunes.

There is no charge for general admission to all concerts at the NYS Fair. The fair's website is now selling tickets for $3. August 24 through September 5 is the start date of the 2022 fair.
