It's Cinderella Reunion Time! Bernadette Peters, Whoopi Goldberg, and Brandy to Appear on 20/20

In an upcoming 20/20 special, ABC will celebrate 25 years since Cinderella premiered on the network.' Cinderella: The Reunion, A Special Edition of 20/20' will air on ABC on August 23 and stream on Hulu the following day.

In a statement to Entertainment Weekly, Imogen Lloyd Webber, SVP at Concord Theatricals, expressed delight that the 25th anniversary of this classic version of Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella will be celebrated on its original network.

Rodgers & Hammerstein's unforgettable score is still enchanting listeners 80 years after their partnership began and 65 years after Cinderella charmed the largest television audience in history.'

Veanne Cox, Brandy, Bernadette Peters, Whoopi Goldberg, Paolo Montalbán, Victor Garber, and Jason Alexander will be among the stars of the special.

The special presentation will take place between 9 and 11 p.m. eastern time. The iconic 1997 film was released on Disney+ last year, and Brandy took a stroll down memory lane.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Brandy said: 'It's enchanting, it's magical, it has an amazing cast and the music will change your life.' The movie will inspire, it will make you happy, and it will make you joyful. That's what we need right now.

Performing in the groundbreaking musical, which initially drew 60 million viewers, the singer and actress made history as the first Black woman to portray the character on screen, in a production that used colorblind casting before Hamilton followed suit.

Whitney Houston played Cinderella's Fairy Godmother, Goldberg played Queen Constantina, Garber played King Maximillian, Peters played Stepmother, Montalban played Prince, Cox played Calliope, and Alexander played Lionel, the King's councilor.

In 2017, Houston was set to play Cinderella but stepped aside to help herald Brandy, a budding star at the time.

The singer and actress recalled Houston saying, 'Girl, I'm 33. I won't be playing Cinderella. I'll be a fairy godmother.' 'If you promise to be my fairy godmother, I would love to play Cinderella.'
