In its latest ruling, the Supreme Court overturned its earlier jugement in Roe vs. Wade case. So many celebrities are criticizing it, and Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day's main singer, is one of them.
According to many experts, the judgement is a massive blow to women's human rights and gender equality.
Armstrong expressed his frustration during a performance at the London Stadium on Friday in the UK by saying, 'F##k America. I'm f##king renouncing my citizenship. I'm coming here.'
Billie Joe Armstrong continued, “There’s just too much f#### stupid in the world to go back to that miserable f### excuse for a country. Oh, I’m not kidding. You’re going to get a lot of me in the coming days.”
Armstrong is the most recently American artist to criticize the decision taken by the Supreme Court. Others are Phoebe Bridgers, Kendrick Lamar, Olivia Rodrigo, and Billie Eilish.
The Supreme Court's recent ruling was in Dobbs vs. Jackson Women's Health Organization. 6 votes were decided on 3.
This is a big and historic decision by US Supreme Court that returns all questions about the legality and also access to abortion to each state.
Michelle Bachelet, who is a UN Human Chief, described the decision as a major setback for reproductive and sexual health throughout the United States.
After 50 years of protection for reproductive and sexual health rights in the US through Roe vs. Wade, this decision overturning is a big blow.
UN experts say the decision completely neglects the binding obligations the US has under International human rights law. This includes ratification of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights.
