During the seventeenth season of America's Got Talent, many changes have taken place. As a result of COVID-19 restrictions that went into effect back in Season 15, there is once again a full audience for the live shows.

AGT judge Simon Cowell describes the new live episode format as 'more exciting' for viewers than the old format.

Live shows have been held during the quarter-final and semi-final rounds of previous seasons of America's Got Talent. With only two acts from each week's eleven-act set moving directly into the finale, this season marked a major change in those norms, as the 55 acts were split up into five qualifying rounds this season.

The viewer's overnight vote selected the first act, while the judges chose the second, third, and fourth act. Simon Cowell explained to People what he's excited about with the new format, and why it's working for him.

The British judge is looking forward to the return of America's Got Talent to the Pasadena Civic Center next batch of Tuesdays! According to him, he wasn't exactly feeling super pumped about how things went last season following the changes.

The new format will place a lot more pressure on the contestants to win the million-dollar prize, but will also allow the judges and audiences to meet more people.

The 64-year-old judge, who won the Golden Buzzer in 2015, is looking forward to seeing his Golden Buzzer-winning act, the 14-year-old Polish singer Sara James, who wowed audiences with her rendition of Billie Eilish's 'Lovely.' Cowell admitted that doing something original with a popular song is a big risk, but he seemed to commend her for taking it.

Following the fifth week of live shows, the top 10 finalists will be announced on September 7th, and an 11th 'Final Wildcard' act will be selected by viewers. During the live show, four eliminated acts are chosen by the judges for the wildcard round.

Thank You!
