After starring in the second season of the Netflix reality dating show Love Is Blind, Jeremy Hartwell filed a complaint against the show.
They purposefully underpaid the cast members, denied them food, drink, and sleep, plied them with alcohol, and shut them off from personal contacts and much of the outside world.
This made cast members want social relationships and affected their emotions and decision-making, Hartwell's attorney, Chantal Payton of Payton Employment Law, PC in Los Angeles, alleged in a statement on Wednesday, July 13.
According to court documents acquired by Us Weekly, Hartwell claims that the Love Is Blind cast was only given alcoholic beverages, soft drinks, energy drinks, and mixers' on a daily basis, and those hydrating fluids such as water were severely prohibited to the cast during the day.
The lawsuit, which is a proposed class action on behalf of all participants in Love Is Blind and other non-scripted productions contain allegations of inhumane working conditions' and claims that cast members were paid less than minimum wage for the number of hours worked.
Hartwell released an entry from his notebook after returning from the Love Is Blind pods on Instagram in February, 10 days after season 2 of the Netflix series began.
The experience of the concert is described in the diary entry as surreal and slightly detached as if I were trapped in the current of a river that suddenly appeared around me.
Filming for Love Is Blind was one of the most intense and memorable moments of my life, and thanks to journaling and contemplation, it remains an experience that I'm at peace with, despite the ups and downs, the reality TV alum said in the caption.
The Chicago native also commented on how little he was featured in the series. 'Love Is Blind debuted, and I've been contemplating a little bit on what it's meant to me, having gone through that entire experiment and then it being very anticlimactic with the cuts they gave me, the 30 seconds I got, and what that means to me,' he said in February on his Instagram Story.
Hartwell went on to say that he was going to journal about how he felt about the scenario.
In a later Story, Hartwell stated that he had 'no regrets' about not being in the main cast that got engaged and married.
He reminded his fans that the 18 Love Is Blind alums who did not go past the pods 'had a really wonderful experience.
