According to a report from Variety, actor Kevin Spacey has dropped out of a forthcoming film about Genghis Khan due to family issues.

There was a rumor that the 62-year-old actor, who starred in House of Cards, would be playing a central role in Chelsea Pictures 1242: Gateway to the West,

but at the last minute, the film's producer Bill Chamberlain informed the publication that the actor will be replaced by a lead that will soon be announced by the studio.

Variety reported that the movie's global rights were being shopped at Cannes Film Festival, and Galloping Entertainment’s Carlos Alperin told Variety that when Spacey was charged with the crime, the film’s producers commenced discussions about its future.

It was reported by the BBC that Spacey pleaded not guilty to four charges of sexually assaulting three men on Thursday.

Also, the Oscar-winning actor pleaded not guilty to the charge of causing another person to engage in penetrating sexual activity without their consent.

It was announced by the Crown Prosecution Service on May 26 that Spacey was facing charges arising from three separate allegations. Spacey said five days later that he would appear in a court of his own volition.

'As a star, I appreciate how carefully the Crown Prosecution Service reminded the public and the media that I am entitled to a fair trial and may be innocent until proven guilty,' the actress told Good Morning America.

The Hollywood Reporter reported that the actor was granted unconditional bail in a preliminary hearing on June 16 from Westminster Magistrates Court in London after his legal team argued that he had no 'real risk of not cooperating.'

In a statement following Spacey's arrest in May, the motion picture's producers said, 'We have no knowledge or comment on the various allegations swirling around, and believe that the courts should decide if there is any validity to them if they even exist.'
