Depp appealed his ex-wife Amber Heard's $2 million defamation award last month, which was handed out by a jury in Virginia.
A notice of appeal was filed by the Hollywood star on Friday seeking to reverse the decision.
A day earlier, Ms. Heard had appealed the high-profile defamation court verdict against her for $10.35m.
Judge Penney Azcarate's order denying post-trial motions on 13 July, as well as the verdict returned on 1 June, is that she wants to be overturned by the Virginia Court of Appeals.
Mr. Depp filed a defamation complaint against his ex-wife in March 2019 and the case started on 11 April in Fairfax, Virginia. It was televised in full and made headlines for weeks.
Heard wrote in The Washington Post that she 'represents domestic abuse' in her op-ed, which he claimed defamed him.
According to Ms. Heard, she filed a counter-suit in November 2020, asking for immunity against Mr. Depp's allegations.
On 1 June, a jury found that Ms. Heard's three statements defamed Mr. Depp overwhelmingly.
As part of Ms. Heard's countersuit, jurors found that Mr. Depp's attorney defamed her in one of three statements he made.
Ms. Heard was awarded $2 million in damages, while Mr. Depp was awarded $10.35 million in damages.
Ms. Heard's spokesperson said the court made errors that prevented a just and fair verdict. We, therefore, appeal the verdict.

According to a spokesperson for Mr. Depp, the jury unanimously determined that the defendant had repeatedly defamed Mr. Depp during the six-week trial. As long as this verdict stands, we remain confident in our case.'
