A sweet tribute is posted on Zak Williams' birthday to his dad, Robin Williams

The sweetest way to honor his late father, Robin Williams, was Zak Williams' sweet tribute to him yesterday. In honor of his famous dad's 71st birthday, the mental health advocate posted a picture of him on Twitter.

My dad is 71 today! Wishing you a very happy birthday!” Zak wrote. I'll remember you today in spandex, as you would want. You are missed and loved forever!”

As a throwback, he also shared an amazing picture of the Mrs. Doubtfire actor in full-body spandex and holding a yellow bicycle.

As a 63-year-old man, Williams committed suicide in August 2014. His publicist released a statement saying, 'Robin Williams passed away this morning.'. He had been suffering from severe depression recently.

 I am deeply saddened by this sudden and tragic loss. It is very difficult for the family at this very difficult time and they respectfully request privacy during this difficult time.'

A May 2021 interview with Oprah and Prince Harry's The Me You Can't See in which Zak talked about 'generational' struggles with mental health and substance use disorder was published on the Oprah Daily website.

Zak said in the docu-series, 'I've struggled with mental health issues my entire life.' My mental health issues include obsessive-compulsive disorder and insomnia. 

As a child, I had a lot of energy and a racing mind, which I inherited to some extent. When I was an adolescent, I found that using alcohol and drugs helped me to calm my mind when I became anxious and stressed.'

The docu-series revealed that Zak used cocaine 'as a coping mechanism.' 'I talked with my dad about it, and he was the same way,' Zak explained. To focus and relax, he would use uppers. 

As I recall, it was only around the time that I realized that I had a problem that, as we became more acutely aware of one another, we began to have a deeper, more profound understanding of one another.'

Williams had Zak with his first wife, Valerie Velardi, and he had Zelda, 32, and Cody, 30, with Marsha Garces Williams, with whom he was married from 1989 to 2010. Susan Schneider was Williams' wife at the time of his death.

The late comedian's widow, Zelda, spoke out after fans sent a video of Jamie Costa recreating a scene from Mork & Mindy that he recreated. It won't stop until I acknowledge it... please, stop sending me the 'test footage,'' she wrote on Twitter.
