The reason behind the name

The full Moon is named Buck Moon because bucks are seen this month as growing new antlers. So it’s got its name from there. Moreover, thunderstorms are widespread this year, known as the Thunder Moon. 

Apollo 11 mission and a first lunar astronaut

July Moon is significant because, on July 16, 2022, Apollo 11 launched from Cape Kennedy, Florida. On July 20, 2022, Neil Armstrong became the first person to step foot on the lunar surface. He reached Moon, placed the American Flag there, and added a commemoration plaque stating that the first man to land on the lunar world in July 1969 A.D. was from Earth.

The retro-reflector array

A lunar laser ranging retro-reflector array - is a two-foot-wide panel covering mirrors pointing at Earth. This tool helps measure the distance between Earth and the Moon at a very accurate angle and degree. The measurement is done through a unique method - a laser is shot out of the Earth towards the Moon, hitting the reflected mirrors on the surface of the lunar world and reflecting the laser light.
