A nudity restriction applied to Sarah Jessica Parker. SJP reveals why she decided not to record any naked scenes for the whole of the show's six-season run in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2016: "I've always had one, and it has nothing to do with anything. Some persons are renowned for having a list of benefits. White candles must be present in their chamber. I don't have a list that is so illogical. I've simply had [a no-nudity clause] forever."

The plots written by Candace Bushnell were frequently inflated. The novelist Candace Bushnell's biography is the inspiration for the program, based on her collection of essays titled Sex and the City. Bushnell acknowledges that the program frequently enhanced her narratives, though. Darren Star, the author, received a good price for Bushnell's essays. In the 1990s, Bushnell wrote a sex column for The New York Observer, which was depicted in the program as the fictitious New York Star. Star avoided paying Bushnell more than $60,000 for the rights to her essays.

Bushnell acknowledges that Big and Carrie would not have been partners in real life. Bushnell confesses in a recent interview with The Guardian, "Carrie and Big's plot lines attracted viewers' attention to the point where they resembled Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennett in some ways. Women could relate to them because they were such an iconic pair; they would say things like, "I found my Mr. Big" or "I just split up with my Mr. Big." It was incorporated into the lexicon, "She clarifies. "And when people make a TV show, it's show business, not show art, so at that moment, it was for the audience, and we weren't thinking about what the influence would be ten years later," the author continues. There is a Mr. Big in real life. Ron Galotti, a well-known magazine publisher, served as the inspiration for Bushnell's columns. The planned color for Carrie was brunette. Bushnell is blonde, so the producers abruptly changed their minds.

While filming, Parker wore heels for as long as 18 hours. SJP felt apprehensive about portraying Carrie Bradshaw. Parker stated that she had reservations about her no-nudity clause and other issues, so her agency had to persuade her to play Carrie Bradshaw. If Parker formally declined, Lisa Edelstein from Girlfriends' Guide to Divorce would have been the backup choice. John Corbett, often known as Aidan, knew Carrie would choose Big. Because New York is the fifth starter in this drama, I always knew how it would finish, and that made sense to me, he admitted. Carrie had to end up in New York, too. New York is Mr. Big. And to me, it has always made sense.

The actors desired greater diversity. Introducing a non-white love interest on Sex and the City took a while. Nixon acknowledges that she and Parker were the leading proponents of increasing the diversity of the cast in 2003, calling it "irresponsible." "I'm a tremendous fan of the program, but if there's one area where we could do better, it's this," Nixon says. Initially, Kim Cattrall wasn't interested in playing Samantha. Before agreeing to take the position, she first declined it twice. The infamous tutu worn by Carrie was bought cheaply. It was only $5. There's another set of opening credits tucked away.

Darren Star, the creator of SATC, disclosed to MTV that "There is a different opening-credit scene with Sarah wearing a blue dress, and it's someplace in the vault. And when she sees the bus, she trips rather than getting splattered by it."The fourth possibility for that notorious cameo was Matthew McConaughey. In the third season episode "Escape From New York," Matthew McConaughey played a part initially intended for Alec Baldwin. After Baldwin declined, George Clooney was given a chance. It was subsequently presented to Warren Beatty after Clooney declined it and rejected it. The offer to Matthew McConaughey was made just after that. The drinks were phony. SJP acknowledges that the cosmos never contained alcohol. They were given water, food coloring, or cranberry juice as alternatives. But the brunch fare was unquestionably authentic.

Before airing the pilot, the show changed the way it was filmed. Amy B. Harris, the executive producer of SATC, gently reveals that in the original SATC script, the characters spoke directly to the audience while looking into the camera. We're not sure why they changed their minds about taking this route, but we can't think of a reason why not. This scene in the cab has a lot of meaning. It was Darren Star's favorite episode and one of the most crucial in establishing the series' tone. In the "up the butt" sequence, Carrie, Charlotte, Miranda, and Samantha discuss the benefits and drawbacks of anal intercourse in episode four of the first season.

As she said to Entertainment Tonight, "I referenced this scenario when I went to talk to Chris Albrecht [the then-president of HBO programming] about what we were doing. For me, it was like a litmus [test] of how he was going to respond and what their perspective would be toward the show".I said, "Okay, I'll tell him the part when Charlotte meets a guy who wants her to have anal sex and she freaks out and tells her friends about it. Either he's going to think it's extremely funny or toss me out of the room."
