The Masked Singer remains a cherished show, and some of the biggest names in entertainment have appeared on the show. Some contestants are challenging to figure out, while others are a pleasant surprise. Tamera Mowry-Housley was the latter. Tori replaced Tamera: Tamera had the chance to appear on the show a season before she performed live but was replaced by Tori Kelly due to an unexpected circumstance. Unexpected illness: The Sister Sisters star was asked to appear on the Masked Singer Season 4. But unexpected illness would force her to return, and she was ultimately replaced.

Tamera revealed: She revealed in a 2021 video to her YouTube channel subscribers, "What a lot of people do not know is that I was supposed to do Masked Singer last season. And then I developed laryngitis – I assumed it was laryngitis, but it was Pharyngitis." The actress added: She added, "Pharyngitis was caused because of allergies. Therefore, my throat was inflamed. I'd my songs picked, and I was eager; I was the seahorse everybody. And Tori Kelly replaced me." Mowry-Housley was devastated by the news: She admitted, "I cried for three days, and I asked the casting director if I could do it the next season."

Tamera got the call again: However, they couldn't assure her. "Therefore, I had to let it go. I'd had to let go of the possibility of living out a dream that I wanted for over two decades, and that was hard," adding, "I got the call again." Singing live was her longtime dream: The famous twin has always loved singing aside from acting. Yet, she wanted to perform eventually to feed her passion. She has performed on Sister, Sister, including singing the show's theme song. However, as far as releasing music, she has never had the opportunity. The National Anthem was her last song: She said happily, "The last time I sang was The National Anthem with my twin at the Malibu Triathlon; previously, it was singing The National Anthem with Tia for The Harlem Globetrotters.

I think it was like maybe the same year. And after that, I never sang, meaning performed, again until I was the Seashell." Bailon-Houghton encouraged Mowry: Tamera's co-host on The Real, Adrienne Bailon-Houghton, to participate in the show and encouraged her to do the same. It was a no-brainer when Mowry received the initial call. The heavy costume makes breathing difficult: Tamera was happy to participate in the show but being in costume sparked her claustrophobia to kick in while practicing. She explained that breathing is tough when singing with such a heavy costume, but she opted to go on regardless.

Runway style! During her first walkout as the Seashell, the producers motivated her to do it runway style. Tamera tried but became winded, which caused her to panic even more. Since she had difficulty seeing and breathing out of the mask, her nerves escalated even further. Tamera explained: Negative memories about a pageant performance during her childhood crept in, and she became fearful. Her confidence surfaced when she felt her late niece and grandmother were watching over her. She explained, "At that moment, all my fears as a child came back."
