Is Matilda on Netflix?

The iconic Roald Dahl work is being transformed into a musical for both the big and small screens. A new Matilda the Musical movie is on its way, and it will debut in theatres first before airing on Netflix in December 2022.

The upcoming Netflix Original musical Matilda, directed by Matthew Warchus, is an adaptation of the book based on Roald Dahl's 1988 novel Matilda, Roald Dahl's Matilda, often known as Matilda or Matilda the Musical, is a stage production with music and lyrics by Tim Minchin and a book by Dennis Kelly.

Insight about Matilda

The original Matilda novel by British children's author Roald Dahl, illustrated by Quentin Blake, was published in 1988. It is the story of a young, intelligent girl who discovers a love of reading despite having abusive parents and a headmistress at her school who incorporates rebellion and magical abilities. The book was turned into a 1996 American movie starring Danny DeVito, an audiobook read by Kate Winslet, and a BBC Radio 4 program with Lenny Henry as the narrator.

The Royal Shakespeare Company revealed their plans to present a musical adaptation in December 2009, directed by Matthew Warchus and with an original script written by Dennis Kelly. After seeing his 2009 tour Ready for This? and being convinced during the encore song "White Wine in the Sun," musician and comedian Tim Minchin was picked to create the music and words for the song. Additionally, it was discovered that Bill Bailey, a comedian, and musician, had been invited to create the songs but declined to owe other commitments. Coincidentally, Minchin disclosed that when composing for a small youth theater in Perth, Western Australia, in the early 2000s, he had first tried to obtain permission from the Dahl estate to create a musical version.

Matilda on Netflix

The fact that Matilda: The Musical will be available on Netflix in December 2022 has long been known. However, Netflix recently unveiled the next British musical's first image and teaser. Here is all we currently know about Netflix's Matilda: The Musical.

Working Title Films is in charge of producing Matilda. The company is well-known for creating other musicals, including Billy Elliot, Les Misérables, and, most recently, the blockbuster Cats movie.

This one is one of the numerous Roald Dahl adaptations that Netflix is working on, along with a Taika Waititi animated series.

When is Matilda coming to Netflix?

Matilda was expected to hit Netflix in 2021, but now it is scheduled to be released in December 2022.
 On December 2, 2022, the musical will be shown in theatres in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Meanwhile, the movie will be made available on Netflix as an original in a few locations worldwide.

Matilda storyline

Young, talented, and very intellectual, Matilda, who is five and a half years old, battles her family's ignorance. Matilda befriends the charming Miss Honey at school, where she may finally display her intelligence. Unfortunately, Miss Trunchbull, a tyrant who takes joy in punishing the pupils severely, is in charge of the school. When Matilda acquires telekinetic abilities, she enlists Miss Honey's assistance, and the two collaborate to stop Miss Trunchbull.

Change in Movie Adaptation

Traditionally, a male cast member in a Matilda play portrayed Miss Trunchbull, the depraved headmistress of Crunchem Hall Primary School. Ralph Fiennes has been replaced by Emma Thompson in the movie adaptation; thus, this will alter.

Although the reason for Ralph Fiennes' departure from the part has not been revealed, we are positive that he would have made for a hilarious Miss Trunchbull.

Role of Miss Honey

The part of Miss Honey had previously been offered to Emma Stone, but Lashana Lynch has already taken it.

Matilda Musical trailer

A new trailer of the musical came out last month, giving a glimpse at Emma Thompson and Lashana Lynch, who portray the evilest Miss Trunchbull and the lovely Miss Honey. Fans may also see Alisha Weir, a newbie, in action as the eponymous prodigy with telekinetic abilities, along with some of the other Matilda musical movie cast members and a good number of the musical scenes.
