A medical scare forced Jared Kushner to leave the White House during his presidential tenure. In an excerpt provided to The New York Times, the 40-year-old, who is also a son-in-law of former President Donald Trump, revealed that he was diagnosed with thyroid cancer while working at the White House in October 2019.

During the writing of  A White House Memoir, Kushner recalled learning about his diagnosis. White House physician Sean Conley took me into the medical cabin of Air Force One as I traveled to Texas to attend the opening of a Louis Vuitton factory, he wrote.

'Your test results came back from Walter Reed. It looks like you have cancer. Surgery should be scheduled right away,' he said. His decision to keep the diagnosis private was due to his desire to maintain his privacy.

According to him, he initially asked the doctor to keep the news secret until they met the following day: "Don't tell anyone, especially my wife or father-in-law." In his letter, he said that this was a private matter that should not be made public.

It wasn't disclosed to anyone at the White House—including the president."In his memoir, Kushner wrote that President Trump learned about his surgery, which involved removing a substantial portion of his thyroid."I was called into the Oval Office the day before the surgery and was instructed to close the door by his team," he recalled.

A nervous Kushner responded, "How do you know about the surgery?". "Are you nervous? ", he asked. He said, "I'm the president. I know everything. I understand that you want to keep these things private. I keep things like this private too. Don't worry about work. We have everything covered here."
