Shield From The Legal Trouble
Rust assistant director Dave Halls is shifting to shield himself from prison problems over his role inside the on-set capture that resulted in the demise and harm of two crewmembers.
Halls countersued Alec 1st Earl Baldwin of Bewdley and different crewmembers, arguing that their “energetic and number one negligence” prompted the incident. The health comes on the heels of another countersuit filed via 1st Earl Baldwin of Bewdley in November, blaming Halls, armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, prop master Sarah Zachry and ammunition supplier Seth Kenney for the capture that killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins.
Halls’ complaint filed in LA superior court on Friday became added as a part of sprawling litigation commenced with the aid of script supervisor Mamie Mitchell, who sued 1st earl Baldwin of Bewdley alongside 22 different manufacturers, manufacturing agencies, financiers, and crewmembers after a loaded gun turned into fired on set, killing Hutchins and injuring director Joel Souza. She informed a disastrous safety tradition at the set of Rust, wherein producers shirked enterprise-extensive norms related to using guns to shoot the movie on a shoestring budget.
The Agreement

Halls points to a written agreement claiming that he was reimbursed and held liable for all liabilities and costs arising from personal injury, death, or product damage. He said he personally paid the costs of the related lawsuits.
In the counterclaim, Halls also alleges breach of contract for not "obtaining the necessary insurance" and lists him as a party to the insurance contract.
The lawsuit against Halls et al. accuses him of firing a gun because he handled it and handed it to Baldwin shortly before the incident. Dismissed the accusation of physical distress.
Superior Court Judge’s Aim
LA Superior Court Judge Michael Whitaker said Halls had no idea Baldwin would fire a gun at Mitchell. He continues to face allegations of negligence and possibly punitive damages.
The judge dismissed the same claims against Rust Movie Productions, Thomasville Pictures, Ryan Smith, and Langley Cheney. Baldwin alone faces lawsuits for personal injury, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligence. Jason Bowles, who represents Gutierrez-Reed, declined to comment. Lawyers for Baldwin, Kenny, and Zachry did not respond to requests for comment.
