After having a colon tumor removed in 2021, Pelé was readmitted to Albert Einstein hospital amid deteriorating health conditions in December. Upon his death at 3.27 pm local time on Thursday, the hospital confirmed "our dear King of Football" died due to multiple organ failures caused by the progression of colon cancer associated with his previous medical condition. "Inspiration and love marked King Pelé's journey, which ended peacefully today," the official Instagram page of Pelé said.
