About Love Island UK Season 8

Love Island UK season 8 contestant Remi Lambert has accused co-stars Jaques O'Neill and Luca Bish of bullying. Remi was eliminated from the villa a few weeks after Danica Bush coupled up with Luca.

The latest season aired its finale in the UK on August 1st, although Hulu viewers will have to wait another week to see it. Despite its high ratings, Love Island season 8 sparked many complaints of bullying.

Jaques, who dated his Love Island UK co-star Gemma Owen years before the show, was one of the most polarizing contestants. Fans slammed his treatment of female islanders, especially partner Paige Thorne.

Viewers wrote into UK media regulator Ofcom after the athlete insulted Ekin-Su Cülcüloğlu. Luca, who coupled up with Gemma, became close to her ex. But their bromance was paused when Jaques self-eliminated after former islander Adam Collard returned to the villa for Paige.

The exit earned praise and sympathy, claiming he left to put his mental health first. However, Remi insists Jaques and Luca are bullies.

The Instagram Scenes

Recently, Remi wrote a lengthy caption about Luca and Jaques on Instagram, along with a clip from an Instagram Live they did a few days prior. After someone impersonating Remi joined, Luca and Jaques mocked their former co-star.

"Don’t know why these guys have such a problem with me," the rapper wrote. The model said these "clear signs of bullying" proved Jaques' true colors. "I wish everyone could see all of the crap I went through," the bombshell continued, "Jacques said bad things about my appearance and the way I speak."

He added that Luca's behavior towards Gemma earned fan backlash and encouraged the taunting. Even when Jaques apologized, Remi said, "like 10 minutes after he started with the snide comments again. I&rsquo've tried to avoid this guy multiple times, but he always ends up starting again. I don’t know when it will stop.

Jaques' family tried to use his ADHD diagnosis as an explanation for his actions. While many fans were offended by this at the time, the 23-year-old became a spokesman for ADHD in his post-show media rounds.

Remi referenced this in his caption, "Worst person to represent mental health and ADHD campaigns. He&rsquo's still out here mocking not just me but other islanders too." Finally, he wrote, "These guys are not role models or good people.

They have not once thought about my mental health...they don’t care at all. I want justice." The post, viewed over 200K times, was liked by fellow Love Island season 8 star Tasha Ghouri and previous winner Amber Rose Gill.

Tasha, the show's first hard-of-hearing contestant, was also bullied by Luca. And days before Instagram Live, a video leaked of Jaques mocking her. The bullying of Tasha made up many of the 5,000 complaints to Ofcom about misogyny.

Network executives responded to those complaints, promising to do a post-season review. Previously in the season, however, they were dismissive of racist editing allegations. The show has made efforts to be more diverse over the years.

Producers also promised to improve duty-of-care, including on-site counselors and aftercare. However, judging by the latest round of controversies, there is still a way to go. Love Island UK is confirmed to return in 2023, so viewers will have to wait and see if changes are made.
